One of the most common mistakes people make when setting goals is not taking the time to think about what they are wanting and what it takes to get there.

 

Don’t get caught in the trap of setting a goal you have no connection with. Use these 3 tips for setting attainable health and wellness goals you truly want to reach.

1. Keep It Realistic

 

If you are reading magazine covers or listening to ads, you probably have a distorted view of what's realistic for long-term weight loss goals. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

 

What are realistic goals:

 

  • 1-2 pounds loss of body weight per week

  • 1% body fat per month

  • 1 pound muscle gain per month

Can you lose weight faster? Yes, but your plan will have to be super restrictive and you will likely be losing muscle at the same time.

 

Super restrictive diets wreck your metabolism. They cause more stress and frustration when you go back to old habits and gain all the weight back.

2. Write It Down Your Goal, Why It's Important To You & How It Will Feel When You Get There

 

In order to reach your goals, you are going to have to do some hard things, change habits and add some new ones. In order to maintain your goal, you need to fall in love with the process so that you can keep it up after you reach it.

Sit for a minute and think about how it will feel when you get there. How will your energy levels, confidence, and mood change? How will it impact the people you love and what you do on a daily basis?

3. Read Your Goals Out Loud To Yourself Every Day

 

Guess what happens when you read something every day? You start believing it! So many times we need to get out of our own way and truly believe we are capable of reaching the goals we set for ourselves.

 

Remind yourself of your goals every day. The truth is, in order to reach your goals, you have to say no to things you might want at the moment.

 

Did you know one of the top reasons people don't reach their goals is because they forget about them? Bet you wouldn't forget if you reminded yourself every day what your goals were and why they were important to you!
